Summer is always a time of big change; the temperatures soar and plants blossom, the cool water and ocean breeze beckon, and this year, Solar Youth experiences a change. Recently, our founder and long-time Executive Director Joanne Sciulli has made the decision to transition to the role of Strategic Advisor (See her announcement HERE - Joanne's Transition Statement). As of June 1st, Candace Wright, who served as Solar Youth’s Operations Director for the past 12 years, takes the reins as Interim Executive Director.
Candace (pronounced CAN-DAH-SEE) has worked with Solar Youth since 2009 and has received commendation for her skills in community leadership, strategic planning, outreach, public speaking and management. Her experience within as well as outside of Solar Youth’s walls speaks to her commitment to building community and providing gateways for change in our urban communities. Outside of the office, Candace is a loving wife and mother, as well as a spiritual advocate and member of her faith. Exuding warmth, grace and professionalism, we are confident that as Candace fills this role, she will continue to uphold Solar Youth’s core values and help to further grow and develop this organization!
Implications for Programming
During this transition period, many of our regular summer and after school programs will continue in-person, as planned. The best way to tune into Solar Youth happenings is to follow our social media pages, where we post news, events and other relevant information.
